Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most effective methods for not only treating pain, but also healing injury. Research has now shown acupuncture to be more effective than many medications for certain types of pain.
Acupuncture works by multiple mechanisms including blocking transmission of pain to the brain, increasing pain tolerance, increasing circulation and elevating levels of the body's natural pain-blocking chemicals. Application of acupuncture can be varied depending on the diagnosis and can also be used for breaking up scar tissue and stimulating muscle healing (known as “dry needling”).
